如何评价Arcade Fire的首张专辑《Funeral》

Funeral是2004年度最佳专辑，各种“00年代XX张最佳专辑”榜单前五名，新千年最佳独立摇滚专辑之一，也就…Radiohead的Kid A可与之分庭抗礼。但Kid A发行于2000年，不是严格意义上的新世纪。甚至，Funeral对于乐队本身也是难以攀越的高峰：后续三张专辑都是水准之作，但听众总认为较Funeral略逊一筹。不管怎么说，Arcade Fire占定了新世纪出道的最佳独立摇滚乐队位置。Funeral的创作动机来自乐队成员的亲属相继离世。Arcade Fire被称为具有哲学色彩，热衷思考“人类永恒的宏大主题”。不过这些思考皆有具体所指，比如三专The Suburbs创作动机来源于主唱童年的郊区生活（Ready to Start是是好单曲！）。Funeral是一张情感表达连贯、极具整体性的专辑。它的主旨是哀伤的，但又蕴含复杂感情，这些感情围绕“葬礼/死亡”喷薄而出。由悲伤的Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)开头，经历抗拒、振奋、抚慰、狂喜、愤怒等等情绪，直到In The Backseat找到平静。Win Bulter和他的妻子Regine Chassagne声音紧绷而神经质，仿佛时刻将崩断的弦，有时他们不是“歌唱”而是“呐喊”。也因此，我看到有人给Funeral贴“EMO”标签——当然不是。
