其实，也不难理解：这是【状语从句+省略结构】。语法中状语从句部分是这样说的：
在时间、条件、方式、比较、让步等状语从句中，如果从句主语与主句主语相同，或者从句主语是it时，从句主语与谓语动词的一部分（经常是be动词）经常省略。例如：
While crossing the road, Tom was hit by a car.
=While Tom was crossing the road, he was hit by a car.

故，结合语境和时态，原句完整形式应该是：
